Announcing New Honorary Board Member, Darci Kistler

Darci Kistler Selected as Honorary Board Member
Riverside native and New York City Ballet alumni artist, Darci Kistler, has accepted an honorary role on the California Riverside Ballet Board of Directors. Darci Kistler was one of the more noted American ballerinas of the 20th century, and was the last lead dancer for the legendary choreographer George Balanchine. It all began when Darci was 4years old and received her very first tutu. She quickly excelled as she studied locally in Riverside and Los Angeles. In early 1979, she was selected to study at New York City Ballet’s School of American Ballet where she first met Balanchine. She joined the NYCB corps de ballet in 1980 and was promoted to soloist in 1981 and principal dancer in 1982, the youngest ever at only 17 years of age.

Darci’s most notable roles include Balanchine’s Jewels (Diamonds), Agon, Prodigal Son and Symphony in C. Darci also danced the role of the Sugarplum Fairy in City Ballet’s 1993 film version of The Nutcracker. In addition to her performing career, Ms. Kistler has been a member of SAB’s faculty since 1994. During the Winter Term, she teaches Intermediate and Advanced Girls technique and variations classes. She is also a member of the Summer Course faculty.

Darci has graced the California Riverside Ballet stage in past years and we look forward to her involvement in the future. The California Riverside Ballet is honored with Darci’s acceptance of this position.
